For UK businesses
What a website costs, honestly
UK agency pricing against mine, for the same scope of work. The agency figures are typical market ranges for a UK small-business project, not the worst quotes I could find.
| The work | Typical UK agency | SourceCode |
|---|---|---|
| Small business brochure siteFive or so pages, custom design, SEO groundwork | £3,000 – £8,000 | from €800 |
| One-page site or landing pageSingle page, built to convert | £1,200 – £3,000 | from €400 |
| WooCommerce shopProducts, payments, shipping, training | £10,000 – £30,000 | from €6,500 |
| Speed optimisationMeasured before and after | £800 – £2,500 | from €150 |
| Monthly care and monitoringUpdates, backups, 24/7 uptime monitoring | £80 – £250 / month | from €65 / month |
| Ad-hoc developer timeNo minimum retainer | £75 – £150 / hour | €50 / hour |
Prices in euros because the business is Spanish-registered. Agency ranges are indicative of the UK small-business market — if you have a quote in hand, bring it to the call and I will tell you honestly whether it is a fair price for what is in it. Sometimes it is.
The honest bit
What changes the number
Two businesses asking for "a website" can be two genuinely different jobs. These are the things that move a quote, and I will tell you which apply to you on the call rather than after you have committed.
- How many pagesA one-page site and a fifteen-page site are different jobs. Most local businesses land somewhere around five.
- One language or twoA proper bilingual build is roughly a third more work than a single-language one — and on this coast it is often worth it.
- Whether the content is readyIf you have the words and photos, we move fast. If you need help shaping them, that is time and it gets quoted.
- IntegrationsBookings, payments, stock, a CRM or anything that has to talk to software you already use.
- Moving an existing siteMigrating without losing your Google rankings takes care. It is not difficult, but it is not free either.
- How bespoke the design isAdapting a proven layout costs less than designing every section from scratch. Both are legitimate — it depends what you need.
When a UK agency is the better choice
Genuinely, sometimes it is. If you need a formal procurement process, a named project manager, a team that can absorb someone being ill mid-project, or you are spending somebody else's budget and need the paperwork to match — an agency is built for that and I am not.
Where I win is the owner-run business that wants the site built well, wants to talk to the person building it, and would rather the money went into the work than into the overhead around it. If that is not you, I would rather say so on the first call than take the job and disappoint you.
FAQs
Questions about cost
If yours is not here, ask it on the call. You will get a straight answer, including when the answer is no.
4 questions
01Why is it cheaper than a UK agency?
Because there is no agency. No account manager, no sales team, no city-centre office rent priced into every hour. You are paying for the person writing the code instead of the four people between you and them. The work itself is to the same standard.
02Are these prices comparable, or am I getting less?
They are comparable for the same scope. What you lose is the agency wrapper — formal proposals, a dedicated project manager, a slide deck at the end. What you keep is the site. If you need the wrapper for internal sign-off reasons, a UK agency may genuinely suit you better.
03Is the price in euros a problem?
Not really. Your bank converts at the day's rate and for a typical project the difference between a good and a bad rate is a few pounds. There is more detail on how invoicing works on the how it works page.
04Do the prices go up once you have seen the job?
No. You get a fixed quote in writing before any work starts and it does not move unless you change the scope, in which case we agree that in writing too. The figures below are starting points, and what moves them is listed further down this page.
