Website repair for broken, hacked and abandoned sites

Websites break at the worst moment, usually just after the person who built them has stopped replying. I find the real cause, tell you in plain English what fixing it involves, and fix it. Whatever the site is built on, I start from what you have, not from a pitch to rebuild it.

The problem

When to get in touch

What you get instead: a working site, an explanation of what went wrong, and the steps that stop it happening again.

  • The site is down, or showing an error instead of your homepage
  • Google or the browser is warning visitors that the site is hacked
  • The contact form looks fine but the enquiries have stopped arriving
  • The layout broke on phones after an update
  • Your developer has stopped replying and nobody has the logins
  • Your hosting company has suspended the account

What you get

How I fix it

Most broken sites need careful work, not a rebuild. The skill is finding the actual cause instead of patching the symptom and waiting for it to come back.

Diagnosis

You hear what's wrong before you spend

I look first and tell you what's broken, what it will cost and how long it will take. You decide whether to go ahead with the number in front of you.

Hacked

Hacked sites cleaned properly

Backups first, then the injected code found and removed, the way in closed, and a review requested if Google has flagged the site. If an install is too far gone to clean safely I'll say so, because a half-cleaned site gets reinfected.

Access

Logins, domain and hosting recovered

Who controls what gets traced and brought back into your name, often without the previous developer's help. Registrars and hosts have recovery routes for exactly this.

Forms

Enquiries that actually arrive

Forms that fail silently and replies landing in spam are some of the most common faults I see, and some of the most expensive, because nobody notices for weeks.

Platform

Whatever it's built on

WordPress, a custom build, or something a previous developer never explained. I work with what's there, and only suggest moving if repairing it would cost you more over time.

After

Stop it happening again

You get a short write-up of what failed and what changed. Monitoring and a care plan are there if you want them, never a condition of the fix.

Process

How a repair runs

  1. Tell me what's happening

WhatsApp or the contact form, with the site's address and what you're seeing. Screenshots help but aren't needed.

  2. Diagnosis

I find the cause and tell you what fixing it costs before any substantial work starts.

  3. Fix

Backups first, then the repair, checked on the live site, including the forms and checkout that tend to break.

  4. Hand back

A plain-English summary of what failed, what changed and anything worth doing next. Then it's yours again.

FAQs

Website Repair: common questions

If yours is not here, ask it on the call. You will get a straight answer, including when the answer is no.

5 questions

01How much does a website repair cost?

Most repairs are charged at €50 an hour. If the diagnosis shows a bigger job, you get a fixed quote before it starts, so there's never an open-ended bill.

02How quickly can you look at it?

Usually the same week, and sooner when the site is down or hacked. For anything urgent, WhatsApp is the fastest way to reach me.

03Someone else built my site. Can you still help?

Yes. That's most of this work. I take over sites I didn't build all the time, and I won't judge the state it's in.

04Do I have to move my hosting to you?

No. I work with whatever you have. If the hosting is the problem I'll explain why and what moving would cost, but the decision is yours, and I'm not reselling anyone's hosting.

05Is it worth fixing, or should I start again?

I'll tell you honestly. Plenty of sites that feel beyond saving need a few hours of work. When a rebuild would work out cheaper over the next couple of years, I'll show you why, and the choice is still yours.
